NI EtherCAT reconfigurable I/O (RIO) slave chassis connect FPGA-enabled I/O to a real-time master controller through EtherCAT, a deterministic Ethernet-based communication protocol. With EtherCAT technology, you can distribute your industrial I/O across your entire application area and synchronize all of your I/O to a single host controller. Featuring standard CAT 5 Ethernet cabling, the chassis communicate deterministically with any CompactRIO, real-time PXI, or real-time NI industrial controller that has two Ethernet ports. You can daisy chain multiple EtherCAT slave chassis from the master controller to expand time-critical applications to high-channel counts while maintaining hard determinism with minimal processor resources.

NI EtherCAT RIO chassis use hot-swappable C Series modules to interface with I/O. With more than 100 NI and third-party modules, the C Series platform provides integrated signal conditioning and direct sensor connectivity, making NI EtherCAT slave chassis an efficient solution for large mixed I/O systems and for eliminating external custom circuitry and wiring.

You can program EtherCAT slave chassis with the LabVIEW Real-Time Module for fast and easy expansion of your real-time system. NI EtherCAT RIO slave chassis include a user-programmable FPGA that is programmable with the LabVIEW FPGA Module, giving you high-speed and customizable I/O timing, inline processing, and closed-loop control.
