The NI In-Vehicle CAN and Measurements Data Logger System logs and analyzes controller area network (CAN) traffic from a CAN bus as well as acquires or outputs other typical measurements. Additional modules include thermocouple input, analog input and output, digital input and output, or any other I/O module compatible with the NI CompactDAQ platform. With CAN and other I/O modules, customizable programming software, and data analysis software, the data logger system provides the tools you need for properly communicating with a CAN bus and developing logging and analysis applications with data synchronization.
Hardware
The NI 9862 C Series module is a 1-port high-speed interface for connecting NI CompactDAQ systems to CAN networks and devices. This interface includes NI-XNET driver software, which provides a powerful frame and signal-based API for rapid application development. The NI 9862 allows for transmitting and receiving data with 100 percent bus loads on the CAN bus with no dropped frames. The module can easily connect to an automobile’s onboard diagnostics (OBD) port using the CAN OBD-II cable.
The NI CompactDAQ 4- and 8-slot chassis are designed for small, portable, mixed-measurement test systems. Combine an NI CompactDAQ chassis with up to four or eight NI and third-party C Series I/O modules for a custom analog input, analog output, digital I/O, and counter/timer measurement system. The NI CompactDAQ chassis feature a variety of form factors including stand-alone for headless logging, and USB or Ethernet for tethered systems.
NI and third-party C Series modules address a wide range of sensor measurements including thermocouples, resistance temperature detectors (RTDs), strain gages, load and pressure transducers, torque cells, accelerometers, flow meters, and microphones. NI CompactDAQ systems combine sensor measurements with voltage, current, and digital signals to create custom, mixed-measurement systems in a stand-alone or tethered logging platform.
Software
You can write custom CAN data-logging applications with the NI LabVIEW graphical programming environment. In addition, you can use LabVIEW to acquire other types of data measurements through additional modules compatible with the NI CompactDAQ platform. Then, with NI DIAdem software, you can analyze and synchronize data. You also can use DIAdem to import a CAN log file along with a CAN database file (.DBC or .NCD) and then synchronize the CAN data with other types of data acquired at the same time as the CAN traffic, including video and GPS data.
