The National Instruments USB-8476s module is a 1-port LIN interface for connecting PCs to LIN networks and devices. The NI USB-8476s offers software-selectable, master/slave termination, so you can monitor, log, and test at all points of a LIN network. The USB-8476s includes NI-CAN driver software, which provides a powerful, frame-based API for rapid application development.

Advanced Synchronization
The USB-8476s features a 3-pin COMBICON synchronization connector for synchronizing the internal hardware timebase with other devices such as USB CAN and LIN interfaces, as well as NI data acquisition, motion, and vision devices, with 1, 10, or 20 MHz clocks. Synchronization eliminates clock drift between devices; you can trigger between devices for correlating CAN data with data from other devices.

All-in-One Design
The convenient all-in-one design features an integrated 2 m USB cable and built-in transceiver, requiring no extra cables or accessories to get applications running quickly. The USB-8476s controller is USB powered. The LIN physical layer is powered from VBat (required for the LIN bus) and features standard electrical isolation up to 500 VDC (withstand, 2 s max) channel-to-bus.

Hardware Time-Stamping
With hardware time-stamping, you can log messages with microsecond-accurate time stamps for reconstructing network events. The USB-8476s interface uses a 9-pin male D-Sub (DB9) connector to interface to LIN.

Advanced Functionality
The USB-8476s features the Atmel ATA6620 LIN transceiver, providing advanced functionality and protection for LIN networks, including:

•Sleep and silent modes
•Transient voltage protection (-150 to 100 V)
•High LIN bus DC voltage (-40 to 60 V)
•Thermal protection
