The National Instruments USB-8472s module is a 1-port low-speed/fault-tolerant CAN interface for connecting PCs to CAN networks and devices. The NI USB-8472s includes NI-CAN driver software, which provides a powerful, frame-based API for rapid application development.
Advanced Synchronization The USB-8472s features a 3-pin COMBICON synchronization connector for synchronizing the internal hardware time base with other devices, including NI USB CAN and LIN interfaces, as well as NI data acquisition, motion, and vision devices, with 1, 10, or 20 MHz clocks. Synchronization eliminates clock drift between devices and you can triggering between devices for correlating CAN data with data from other devices.
Fault-Tolerant The Philips TJA1054A fault-tolerant CAN transceiver provides reliable communication in harsh electrical environments. In addition to bus-failure tolerance, the TJA1054a features a variety of additional protections, including:
•Bus short-circuit to battery and ground •Thermal •Transient voltage (-150 to 100 V, ISO 7637 part 1)
All-in-One Design The convenient all-in-one design features an integrated 2 m USB cable and built-in transceiver, requiring no extra cables or accessories to get applications running quickly. The NI USB-8472s is bus-powered and features standard electrical isolation up to 500 VDC (withstand, 2 s max) channel-to-bus.
Hardware Time-Stamping With hardware time-stamping, you can log messages with microsecond-accurate time stamps for reconstructing network events. The USB-8472s uses a 9-pin male D-Sub (DB9) connector to interface to CAN.
Advanced Functionality The USB-8472s uses the Philips SJA1000 CAN controller, which provides advanced functionality such as listen-only mode, sleep/wakeup mode, error-counter access, and self-reception (echo) mode.
Reduce your setup time and total cost of ownership, and get a system you can use out of the box with National Instruments system assurance programs. System assurance programs include:
Installation and integration test of all individual hardware
Courtesy installation of system driver sets and application development environments
Three-year warranty and calibration coverage
Custom documentation plus a custom restore and startup utility
This service is only available for PXI, NI CompactRIO, and NI Compact FieldPoint systems.
National Instruments designs and manufactures all products to minimize failures, however unexpected failures can still occur. Extended warranties provide a fixed economical price at the time of system purchase, covering any repair costs for up to three years. In addition, they offer the following benefits:
Significant cost savings compared to individual repair incidents
Fault location, diagnostics, and repair by NI any time the system product fails
All parts and labor costs covered as well as any adjustments needed to restore the hardware to manufacturing specifications
NI recognizes the need to maintain properly calibrated devices for high-accuracy measurements. NI provides manual calibration procedures, services to recalibrate your products, and automated calibration software to calibrate many NI measurement products.
Return your registered product under warranty at no additional labor and parts cost. NI offers fault location, diagnostics, and repair any time the system fails as well as any adjustments needed to restore the hardware to manufacturing specifications.
