The NI PCMCIA-FBUS Series 2 is a 1-port interface for connecting FOUNDATION Fieldbus devices to standard notebook PCs. These interfaces, which connect to H1 (31.25 kbit/s) networks, are also available in a 2-port configuration. NI-FBUS Communications Manager (CM) software for Windows is included with each interface. NI-FBUS CM provides a high-level interface to FOUNDATION Fieldbus devices without requiring in-depth knowledge of lower-level Fieldbus protocols. HMI and DCS applications can use NI-FBUS CM for data collection and control on Fieldbus. Applications for the PCMCIA-FBUS Series 2 interfaces include portable data logging and field configuration and maintenance of devices and networks.
Upgrade Options The legacy PCMCIA-FBUS (Series 1) cards do not work with some 3.3 V PCMCIA controllers such as the O2Micro CardBus controllers. National Instruments has resolved this issue in newer Fieldbus interfaces and recommends that you upgrade your legacy PCMCIA-FBUS cards to the PCMCIA-FBUS Series 2 cards or the NI USB-8486 interface.
