National Instruments does not recommend the NI PXI-PCI8331 for new designs. Instead, consider the NI PXI-PCIe-8361 or the NI PXI-PCI8360 as the system controllers. For chassis expansion purposes, consider using the NI PXI-8364.
With the NI PXI-PCI8331 kit, you control PXI from your PC through a fully transparent MXI-4 link connected with copper cabling. MXI-4 provides remote control of PXI systems from PCI computers by implementing a PCI-to-PCI bridge over a high-bandwidth link. This link is transparent to software applications and drivers, so industry-standard desktop computers and servers can control PXI systems with no additional programming. With MXI-4, you can use PXI modules as if they are PCI boards directly installed in your computer. You can also use two NI PXI-8331 modules for linking multiple PXI chassis. To configure a complete PXI system based on MXI-4 controllers, visit the ni.com/pxiadvisor.
