NI Digital Waveform Editor

Create, Edit, and Import Digital Test Vectors

  • Design digital vectors with six drive and compare states (0, 1, Z, H, L, and X)
  • Import test vectors from VCD or ASCII files from VHDL design simulation packages
  • Use built-in fill patterns for count up, count down, pseudorandom bit sequences (PRBS), and more
  • Create buses, add bookmarks, and measure timing with cursors
  • Play waveform designs when combined with NI 654x, NI 655x, or NI 656x digital devices
  • Highlight bit errors in waveform designs when combined with an NI 655x using hardware compare
  • Data Sheet

The NI Digital Waveform Editor is a graphical software tool you can use to visualize digital signals and easily create, edit, and modify digital waveforms for customized interfacing and test applications. You can design digital waveforms from scratch or import existing waveforms from Value Change Dump (.VCD) or ASCII file formats. The waveform editor offers six different digital states so you can define waveforms on a per-channel, per-cycle basis for generation (0, 1, or Z) and acquisition (L, H, or X) of unidirectional and bidirectional parallel data lines. You can also fill digital signals or buses with count up, count down, pseudorandom bit sequences, and other well-known patterns.

With the Digital Waveform Editor Version 3.0, you now have an option to “play” waveforms directly by clicking a run button. Combine the waveform editor with NI 654x, NI 655x, or NI 656x high-speed digital devices to generate or acquire waveforms quickly with literally no programming for common logic levels including 1.8 V, 2.5 V, 3.3 V, 5 V, and LVDS. An NI 655x is particularly powerful because of its ability to highlight bit errors in the editor in real time, so you can see errors in your design or measure timing restrictions between signals using cursors.
