With the National Instruments FP-1300, you can easily add I/O onto a CAN network. The NI FP-1300 is a CAN interface module for FieldPoint that provides full user control of the CAN messages. The FP-1300 works with all the FieldPoint I/O modules, so you can add analog I/O, digital I/O, temperature measurements, and strain measurements to a CAN network. The module is designed for device prototyping and for adding I/O to CAN networks in automotive, aerospace, and machine building applications. Because the module does not run a higher level protocol such as DeviceNet or CANOpen, you have complete control over how the I/O data is packed into CAN messages. For instance, in one CAN message you can include data from a thermocouple, an analog input, and from a digital input. You can also configure whether the messages are transmitted, periodically, on change of state, on level, or when they are polled. The module accepts standard (11-bit) or extended (29-bit) message (arbitration) IDs. Configuration is performed from Measurement & Automation Explorer using an NI CAN interface device. Once the FP-1300 is configured it can be read from and written to with any CAN device. If you are using National Instruments software, the module is read from and written to using the CAN API. The FP-1300 is shipped with NI-CAN 2.0 driver software and with a configuration utility. The FP-1300 is available in four packages. The first only includes the FP-1300 module. The other three packages contain both the FP-1300 and an NI CAN interface device (for PCI, PXI, or PCMCIA) at a discounted price. For customers without a CAN interface device who don't need to configure the I/O ranges or create custom message packing, the module can be used in the default state.
National Instruments designs and manufactures all products to minimize failures, however unexpected failures can still occur. Extended warranties provide a fixed economical price at the time of system purchase, covering any repair costs for up to three years. In addition, they offer the following benefits:
Significant cost savings compared to individual repair incidents
Fault location, diagnostics, and repair by NI any time the system product fails
All parts and labor costs covered as well as any adjustments needed to restore the hardware to manufacturing specifications
NI recognizes the need to maintain properly calibrated devices for high-accuracy measurements. NI provides manual calibration procedures, services to recalibrate your products, and automated calibration software to calibrate many NI measurement products.
Return your registered product under warranty at no additional labor and parts cost. NI offers fault location, diagnostics, and repair any time the system fails as well as any adjustments needed to restore the hardware to manufacturing specifications.
