National Instruments offers an extensive assortment of LAN/LXI instrument control tools to help save you time and money throughout the life of your instrument control system. These tools include information to help you make the right instrument control bus choice and a complete array of LAN/LXI instrument control products, including GPIB and serial bus converters, IEEE 1588 plug-in interfaces, and I/O software for communicating with native LAN/LXI instruments. With the GPIB-ENET/100 LAN-to-GPIB converter, you can communicate with your existing GPIB instruments while taking advantage of the distributed nature of LAN/LXI. This converter is software-transparent, so you can reuse your existing NI-488.2 applications. NI offers a combination GPIB interface and gigabit Ethernet port, giving you the combined functionality in a single PCI slot.

NI also provides LAN-to-serial converters to help you communicate with your existing RS232 and RS485 instruments through your network. These converters install two or four serial ports natively on your PC so you can reuse your existing applications. With IEEE 1588-compatible interfaces, you can synchronize clocks and events with other IEEE 1588-based instruments or computers.

You can use NI-VISA I/O software to communicate with newer instruments that offer built-in USB ports. NI-VISA provides a bus-independent software architecture so you can use a common API to communicate with instruments through GPIB, USB, LAN/LXI, PCI/PXI, and VXI.
