9-Bit Serial Writing in LabVIEW

Filename: 9_bit_write.vi
Requirements: View

This VI demonstrates how to write 9-bit serial information. Normally, the data bit limitation is 8 bits, but the parity bit can be used as a ninth bit when manipulated correctly. In particular, a VISA Property Node has the ability to toggle the parity bit between mark and space, allowing the user to define at exactly what logic level the ninth bit should be output.

To run this VI, simply identify the COM port and baud rate desired. The array of booleans allows you to define what data to output in the regular 8 data bits as well as a ninth bit that controls the parity bit. Using the operate tool, change the value of the boolean LEDs to alter the data pattern.
