Controlling NI 4472 Excitation Current from LabVIEW
The excitation current, which you can control on a per-channel basis, is a constant 4 mA current that provides power to the onboard pre-amplifier on a variety of sensors including many accelerometers, microphones, and dynamic pressure transducers. PCB Piezotronics, a vendor of accelerometers and microphones, refers to this 4 mA excitation as "IEPE", short for Integral Electronic Piezoelectric. IEPE excitation is compatible with similar DC current-driven sensors from other vendors including Kistler, Endevco, and Bruel & Kjaer.
NOTE: The excitation current produces a significant DC offset in the data. To remove this offset, enable AC coupling on all channels supplying excitation current.
